Mary Jane Lewis, of Villanova, PA., passed away on November 19, 2007 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She was 69.
Daughter of the late Theodore and Helen Zukowski Durnford, she was born in Hartford CT in 1938. She was a 1955 graduate of the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT and served as her class alumni representative. She was a 1959 graduate of Wellesley College where she roomed for four years with her close friend Madeline Albright, who would go on to become the first woman to hold the position of Secretary of State of the United States. Mary Jane worked as a systems engineering manager for IBM until she retired in 1996. She was the President of the Merion Cricket Club Bridge Club, the First Vice President of the Greater Philadelphia Philosophy Consortium, member of the board of trustees of Chamounix Mansion, former member of the board of directors of Clay Studio, and past President of the Suburban Garden Club.
Mary Jane was the beloved wife of Wayne H. Lewis, devoted mother of Laura Lewis Scannell (Gerald) and loving grandmother of Alexandra Victoria Scannell.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday November 24, 11:00 AM at St. Thomas of Villanova Church on the Villanova University Campus, Lancaster Ave., Villanova, PA. Relatives and friends may call at the Church after 9:00 AM. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
