William
Hollenbach
January 10, 1949 – October 29, 2016
Bill Hollenbach, 67, of Havertown, PA, died suddenly on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Inverness, Scotland while on vacation with his wife and other loved ones.
Bill grew up in Villanova, the son of the late George and Delores Hollenbach. He graduated from Malvern Prep and Fordham University. He earned a Master's in Education from Temple and a Master's in Theater from Villanova. Bill taught English at West Philadelphia High School for many years before becoming the Director of the Communications magnet program at William Penn. Bill was a dedicated and caring teacher who was enormously proud of his students, many of whom have gone on to careers in media and the arts.
Bill was a fixture in the Philadelphia theater community. As a younger man Bill acted in and directed locally produced plays, and throughout his life wrote plays, which were often produced. He was a longtime member of The Philadelphia Dramatists Society.
As a young man Bill was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. He lived bravely with the disease, remaining active throughout his life, never letting it or related health problems slow him down.
Bill was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend to many. His love for his wife Susie in particular was unparalleled and is an inspiration to his four children. Bill and Susie met in London in the summer of 1969, and after a year of writing letters, got married in Villanova. Bill remained a devoted and doting husband throughout their 46 married years.
Bill was a proud and involved father and grandpa, cooking weekly Sunday dinners, cheering from the sidelines of his grandchildren's sports games, and presiding over summer vacations together at the family home on Peaks Island, Maine. His love for his family was constantly evident through his words and actions.
Bill is survived by his wife Susie, his children Jake (Ellie), Sarah (Dan), Emily (Shaun) and Beckett (Cori), grandchildren Ava, Lily, Henry, Lucy, Dylan, Theo, Simon and Cali, and siblings David, Jay, Mary Ad and Michael.
