Wallace J.
Eichman
September 12, 1951 – June 28, 2023
Wallace "Wally" James Eichman, 71, of Bryn Mawr, passed away June 28, 2023.
The fourth of 11 children born to Drs. Joseph and Mary (Redner) Eichman, Wally grew up in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., in the apartment above his father's doctor's office. The family later moved to Merion Station, where Wally developed a lifelong passion for Westerns and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Wally attended St. Matthias Grade School and Monsignor Bonner High School, and earned an Associate's Degree from St. Joe's College. He spent his 46-year career working in maintenance at St. Joseph's, retiring in 2016.
A beloved brother, uncle, godfather, and friend, Wally was well known for his kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness, and for his penchant for telling jokes. Many friends and family members fondly recall Wally calling them every day to share a joke. He was a frequent guest at the homes of his siblings and their families, who remember his gentleness, warmth, and ability to see the best in others.
A man of faith, Wally was a dedicated participant in the life of the church, first at St. Matthias and then Our Mother of Good Counsel (OMGC) in Bryn Mawr, just a block from his home. For nearly 20 years, Wally was a familiar face at OMGC, serving as a volunteer usher and greeter who helped his fellow parishioners in any way he could.
Wally was well-traveled, making trips to England, Portugal, Germany, and Bermuda, and traveling widely within the United States to visit family in Alabama, Arizona, Chicago, and Hawaii. He joined his family for vacations on multiple occasions, particularly the families of his brother Bob and sister Fran.
His nicknames were Ace and DeBussy.
Wally is survived by siblings Joseph (and wife Maureen), Mary, John (and wife Rose), Frances (and husband John Weinzettle), Robert (and wife Addie), Margaret (and husband Tom Emge), Eleanor, Henry (and wife Carol), Rita (and husband Larry Kotler). He is also survived by 25 nieces and nephews, and more than 10 great-nieces and -nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister Nancy.
Wally was loved by many and he will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited on Wednesday July 5th, Viewing from 9 to 10:30 AM with Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church, 31 Pennswood Road, Bryn Mawr, PA. The interment will follow at Westminster Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd.
