Virginia Fox Monaghan (Ginny), a longtime resident of the Main Line and for the past 8 years, Waverly Heights, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7 th , surrounded by her family.
Born in 1930 to Thomas P. Fox and Anne Hewitt Fox, Ginny was a graduate of the Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in Bryn Mawr and the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston. Following graduation, Ginny worked for the President of the University of Pennsylvania and then for the University's Alumni Society.
In 1947, Ginny met Paul Monaghan, Jr. on the grass courts of the Merion Cricket Club. They were married in October 1952 and had a loving partnership for 65 years, during which time they raised seven children. Ginny was an adored wife, mother and grandmother, "GinGin" to her grandchildren, and at her happiest when surrounded by her family.
In 1979, Ginny began a successful real estate career with the firm of Wheeler Williams. Well respected in the industry for over 30 years, Ginny received many awards, including both the President's and the Chairman's Circle designations.
Ginny was an accomplished and competitive athlete, enjoying tennis and golf and sharing her love of both sports with her children and grandchildren. She also came home with quite a few trophies! She and Paul loved to travel and had fond memories of adventures throughout the United States, Europe and China. Closer to home, family vacations to Squam Lake and Avalon were annual favorites. She liked to garden and play bridge and was a member of the Merion Cricket Club and the Merion Golf Club. Ginny had a genuine appreciation for Philadelphia's varied cultural institutions and was active in the Antiques Study Group and Faith & Fine Arts.
Ginny was pre-deceased by her husband Paul and a grandson, Ryan Monaghan. She is survived by her sister Barbara Evans and her seven children: Carol (Kevin) Weir, Alec (Ansie), Peter, Jay, Sandy, Bill (Alison) and Allison (Dean) Miller, and 18 grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 24
th
at 11 AM, Saint John Vianney Church, 350 Conshohocken State Road, Gladwyne. Relatives and Friends are invited to a Visitation at the Church from 10 – 11 AM. Interment is private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Sacred Heart Academy, 480 South Bryn Mawr Avenue, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010.
