Victoria
Donohoe
March 21, 1929 – November 21, 2018
Victoria Donohoe , born in 1929, daughter of the late Daniel J. and Anne O'Neill Donohoe, both artists, lived with her parents at 34 Narbrook Park, Narberth, remaining in the family home after their deaths.
Vicky graduated from Merion Mercy Academy in Merion, PA and received a B.A. at Rosemont College in 1950. After an art scholarship at Boston College for a year, she earned an MFA degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
She spent a year in Florence, Italy, coming home on the Andrea Doria , which later sank at sea.
In 1985 Villanova University granted her an honorary doctorate in fine arts. She was also honored by The Philadelphia Tri-State Artists Equity Association in 2013.
For fifty years, ending in June 2012, Vicky was art critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper.
For more than a decade Vicky was a member of the Committee of Sacred Liturgy for the Philadelphia Catholic Archdiocese with meetings held at St. Charles Seminary in Wynnewood.
Beginning in 1982, Vicky edited a planned book about the cultural history of the Narberth region, on which she worked full-time since her 2012 retirement.
For many local residents, her red hair, as she walked to and fro in Narberth, distinguished her. Never having driven, she was dependent on mass transit and the kindness of friends to travel the region.
She was involved in community events, attending Narberth Borough Council meetings, writing letters to the editor, and attending untold meetings. She worked on the Pa. Historic and Museum Commission roadside marker in downtown Narberth about NFL Commissioner Bert Bell as well a marker for John Dickinson on Montgomery Ave. in Merion .
She wrote the successful nomination for Narbrook Park, which celebrated its Centennial in 2015, to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Vicky is survived by many loving cousins and numerous dear friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass on Friday November 30, 10:30 AM at St. Margaret Church, 208 N. Narberth Ave., Narberth, PA. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Margaret School, 227 N. Narberth Ave., Narberth PA 19072.
