Timothy J.
Campbell, Esq.
July 21, 1964 – April 27, 2023
Timothy Campbell, age 58, passed away at his home in Bryn Mawr on April 27, 2023 after a long illness. Tim was born in Philadelphia, PA to Thomas and Mildred Campbell, one of four children. He grew up in Blue Bell, PA and attended grade school at Epiphany of Our Lord School. Tim was graduated from LaSalle College High School in Glenside, where he was active on the speech and debate team, and Georgetown University School of Foreign Service with a BSFS in International Politics. While at Georgetown he coached debate at Georgetown Prep, where one of his students is now U.S. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch. They kept in touch over the years and, as soon as Mr. Justice Gorsuch was confirmed, Tim could not resist a quick email congratulating the Justice on his "second national championship."
Tim next received his doctor-of-law degree from Villanova's Charles Widger School of Law where he was a founder of the Environmental Law Journal. He began his career with Sprecher, Felix, Visco, Hutchison and Young, moving with his practice group to a larger firm upon Sprecher Felix's dissolution. Young later left to form Christie Pabarue Mortensen & Young, which Tim joined for many years, before early retirement for medical reasons, as Of Counsel at what had become Christie Young. During that time Tim was national coordinating counsel for Aston Co. for a series of complex mass tort claims. Under his leadership, the number of those claims was reduced from a total in the five-digit range to fewer than 100. Tim's legal practice over the course of his career as a trial attorney included insurance coverage and defense, representation of charitable and religious organizations, mass tort, plaintiff's personal injury as well as defense of same, product liability defense, employment and civil rights. He never lost a case he tried. Throughout his many years of practice Tim remained committed to pro bono work in the areas of child advocacy and civil rights.
When he was younger, his family bought a house in Sea Isle City, NJ where they enjoyed many summers at the shore and on their boat. The house was eventually sold to pay the many tuitions he and his siblings were quickly racking up. Tim later took great pleasure at a lake in the mountains, where he spent countless hours in a chair on the dock, doing absolutely nothing more than watching dragonflies land on the lily pads. Tim loved to travel throughout the country and traveled extensively abroad to England, France, Russia, Belgium, Germany, and Austria.
Tim spent school holidays and summer vacations working for the company his father founded, Laboratory Pipe Company, an international firm that designed and installed laboratories in colleges and universities as well as various corporations, in many states and overseas. As erudite as he was, Tim always valued his training and experience in the trades, obtaining his master plumber's license and union membership. Tim eventually became vice president of the business before his father retired.
Tim will be remembered for his close friendships from high school, college, law school and beyond, his incisive legal mind, interest in civic, political and military history, Phillies baseball, love of fine art, affection and generosity, and a wicked wit. Tim especially kept close and loving contact with his friends from LaSalle's speech and debate team, all of whom bore great affection for him for decades. Tim was well loved and is greatly missed.
Tim was predeceased by his beloved parents Thomas A. Campbell and Mildred M. Campbell, and by his younger brother Terence J. Campbell, Esq., for whom he bore particular love, admiration and closeness all the days of his life. He is survived by his beloved companion Genevieve G. Saylor; brother Thomas A. Campbell (Cathy); sister Patrice Bower; nephew Devin Campbell; dear friends and colleagues.
