Obituary

Thomas Francis Quinn, III., age 90, of Villanova, PA., loving husband of Joan Meaney for 62 years, passed away on January 24, 2016.

Son of the late Thomas and Mary Taylor Quinn, he was born on April 19, 1925 in Yonkers, NY.

In addition to his wife Joan, he is survived by seven children: Thomas Quinn (Elizabeth), Kathy Porter (Michael), Patricia Drollinger (Dave), Joseph Quinn (Amy), Rosemary Honebrink (Mark), Ann Bridge (Mark) and Joanie Milhous (Stowe), and twenty wonderful grandchildren.

Tom was an active member of this country's "greatest generation". Growing up in Yonkers New York, Tom was a Golden Glove boxing champion, fought in the old Madison Square Garden and enjoyed his summer days out on Fire Island. As WWII broke out, Tom tried to join the Navy when he was underage, eventually enlisting on the day after his 18th birthday. While in the Navy, Tom was awarded 11 Battle stars, was one of the 8 volunteers whose clandestine mission rescued radio man George Tweed off of Guam on July 10, 1944 and he was middleweight boxing champion of the S.Pacific fleet. When the war was won, he came home to thankful parents. Tom graduated from the class of 1950 at Brown University but was soon called up again for the Korean conflict.

Tom was a proud father to his seven children and could be seen (and heard) on sporting event sidelines with cigar in hand throughout the Main Line. He gave his time to local children, coaching the Wynnewood Warriors baseball team for many years and counseling many neighborhood kids even long after they grew up.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday January 29, 10:30 AM St. Katharine of Siena Church, Lancaster & Aberdeen Aves., Wayne, PA. Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation at the Church after 9 AM. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA..

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Emergency Aid of Pennsylvania Foundation, c/o the Meaney Scholarship, 221 Conestoga Road, Wayne, PA 19087 would be deeply appreciated.
