Thomas R. Gibson of Villanova, Pennsylvania and Naples, Florida peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his beloved family on June 20,2022.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sophie H. Gibson, and their three children: Matthew B. Gibson and his wife Tiffany, his three children: Natalie, Connor and Katie; Katherine Gibson Wallace, her children: William, Sophie and Charles; and Caroline Gibson Kincannon and her two sons Liam and Crosby. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Gibson Prowitt and brother James Gibson and his wife Virginia. Tom was predeceased in death by his parents Gilbert and Mary Ellen Gibson and brothers Robert and John and John's wife Ann.

Tom grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and is a graduate of DePauw University.  He held a master's degree in Business Administration from Harvard University.  He was a seasoned automotive executive, senior advisor of Cerberus Operations and Advisory Company, an affiliate of Cerberus Capital LLC.

He served in numerous leadership roles including Chairman, Lead Independent Director, President, CEO and COO of public and privately held companies. He served on Governance, Strategy, Finance and Investment, Compensation and Audit Committees of NYSE, NASDAQ and privately held companies.

He was also the co-Founder, Chairman, President and CEO of Asbury Automotive Group, a $5 billion start up founded in 1994 to acquire and manage retail automotive mega dealerships.

Prior to Asbury, Tom held various senior sales and marketing positions with Ford and Chrysler before becoming president and COO of Subaru of America.

He has been on the Board of Directors of Dealer Tire LLC, Alliance Inspection Management and True Car, all privately held.  He is the past lead independent director of Ikon Office Solutions, Chairman of the Board of Guilford Industries and past director for Chrysler, Dealer Track, Falcon Financial, Subaru of America and Asbury Automotive.

He has served as a Trustee or Board Member of the following organizations: DePauw University, Rowan University, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, The US Ski Team, Subaru Foundation, Penjerdel Council and the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia and the Conservancy of Southwest Florida.

Tom was the ultimate family man and a mentor to many.  He could find something good in just about every person and any situation.  He is an example of a wonderful life enjoyed and well lived and will never be forgotten by those who knew him, including his pal, our little dog Gibby.

A funeral Service will be held at 10:00am on July 9, 2022 at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Avenue in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Interment is private.
