Obituary

Taras (Terry) M. Wochok, 84 who was an attorney in Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025.

Terry was born in Philadelphia on March 4, 1941 to Frank and Stephanie Wochok. His early years were spent living in the family residence on Franklin Street where he was raised in the Ukrainian Catholic Church. He attended St. Basil's elementary school in Philadelphia. He attended LaSalle College High School where he played the French Horn as a member of the marching band. He went on to attend LaSalle University, majoring in Political Science and  then attended Notre Dame Law School where he received his Juris Doctor.  Terry held the position of President of the League of Ukrainian Catholics (LUC) Philadelphia chapter in the 1960's while attending LaSalle University.

He married Ms. Judith (Judi) Scheive from LaGrange Park, IL on August 6, 1966, whom he had met on a blind date while in law school in South Bend. His love for her was evident in all aspects of their 59 years of marriage. He began his legal career taking a position in the Philadelphia District's Attorney's Office as an assistant district attorney. He became the Chief of the Narcotics and Rackets Division under District Attorney, Arlen Spector, and was the Campaign Manager for Mr. Spector in his 3rd consecutive bid  for District Attorney of Philadelphia. Terry also was a Special Assistant to the US Attorney in the Office of Drug Enforcement Administration. For a short time, Terry was also  a visiting professor at Villanova University.

Terry and family moved to Malvern, PA and he opened his private legal practice in Paoli PA. At that time, he became the personal attorney to Mr. John DuPont and represented him for many years. He was the President and Founder of the law firm of Taras M. Wochok & Associates in the late 70's. In the later 2010's he founded and was President of the Quest for the Best Foundation which works with non-profit organizations. Terry also spent a good deal of his adult time in a hockey rink which served as stepping stone to him becoming Commissioner and an Executive Board Member of the Delaware Valley Hockey League (DVHL) for over 25 years. He also served on the board of St Mary Franciscan shelter in Phoenixville, PA.

Terry and Judi owned a beach house in Avalon, New Jersey where they spent most of their summers. They enjoyed summers by the water as a family. His love for boating led him to join the Stone Harbor Yacht Club where he became a very active member. He held several positions at the Club, most notably, he served as Commodore of the Club in 2011.

He was devoted to his wife, sons and grandchildren. He was known for his quick wit, friendly demeanor and love for every sport. He enjoyed the game of golf and his early morning Friday games. Professionally, he was well respected as a bright and conscientious attorney who treated his fellow lawyers and his clients civilly, courteously and with the utmost professionalism throughout his career.

He is survived by his wife Judith, sons Todd (wife, Lauren, grandson Brayden) and Timothy (wife, Ashley, granddaughters Taryn &Presley; grandson Weston) and brothers Thomas (wife Elizabeth), Dennis (wife, Eleanor). He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

A ceremony celebrating his life will be held on Friday August 29th with Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Maris Stella Church at 252 50th St. in Avalon NJ 08202.  A Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM at the Church prior to the service.
