Obituary

Stephen H. "Grumpy" Pendergast passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Bryn Mawr Hospital on November 2, 2015. Born on March 10, 1942, he was the son of Stephen W. and Mary H. Pendergast and a lifelong resident of the Main Line. Steve graduated from Radnor High School in 1960 and attended Villanova University.

Steve took tremendous pride in his hometown – graciously donating his time and talents to the Radnor High School Alumni Association, the War Memorial in Wayne, the Radnor Historical Society, and Radnor High School's "Has Beens" as well as volunteering in Bryn Mawr Hospital's Emergency Room for over 30 years. While his sense of community was strong, it paled in comparison to the love and devotion he had for his family.

He was a loving husband to his wife of 43 years, Rosalind "Roz" (Torrillo) and a devoted father to his three children, Steve (Britt); Jeff (Eunice); Mary H. "Muffy" Bruckmann (Frank). He was a wonderful "Grumpy" to his seven loving grandchildren, Nicholas, Henry, Arlo, Jeffrey, Eliza, Jorgie, and Thomas. He was predeceased by his sister Genevieve Loeschinger (Otto) and is survived by his sister Mary Fay Weaver (Kent).

Always dapper in his bowties, Steve had a penchant for rare coins and stamps, a hobby he turned into a career on the Main Line for many years. Among his many interests, on the first Saturday in May, Steve joined friends at Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby for many years.

He will always be known for his kindness, compassion, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor. Steve touched so many lives and will be greatly missed by his family, nieces, nephews, and many dear and close friends.

A Memorial Service celebrating Stephen Pendergast's life will be held in the Church of the Redeemer at 230 Pennswood Road, Bryn Mawr PA, 19010 on Saturday Nov. 14, at 11:00 AM.
