Samuel James
Horsey
March 18, 1945 – December 13, 2025
Samuel James Horsey, of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, was born on March 18, 1945, and passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025.
Samuel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ianthe Horsey, whom he adored and with whom he shared a deep, abiding love. She was truly his world, and together they modeled a partnership rooted in devotion, respect, and faith—an example he was proud to set for his daughter. He was also predeceased by his sister, Ernestine Horsey, his mother, Bessie Handy, and his father, Samuel Horsey.
A proud veteran, Samuel served in the United States Army and Army Reserves for nearly 30 years. During this same period, he also dedicated nearly three decades to the United States Postal Service, serving as a letter carrier at the Ardmore Post Office, where he became a familiar and trusted presence in the community. His dual service to country and community stands as a testament to his work ethic and character. Samuel was honored to represent the Army Reserves in the funeral procession for the late President Ronald Reagan, a moment of service he held in high regard.
A man of God and a bringer of peace, Samuel served as an usher at St. Thomas of Villanova Church for decades, quietly and faithfully supporting parish life. His commitment to community extended further through his longtime membership in The Community Garden Club at Wayne, the Radnor Town Watch, and as a proud graduate of Class 2016-02 of the Radnor Township Citizens' Police Academy. He was also recognized for his support and commitment in assisting with the World Meeting of Families and Papal Visit in September 2015.
Samuel and Ianthe shared a deep love of travel and seeing the world together. Their journeys took them to England, France, and throughout the Caribbean, with a special place in their hearts for Barbados, Ianthe's home. These travels were a source of joy, connection, and treasured memories that reflected the closeness of their bond.
In his personal life, Samuel also found joy in photography, especially photographing flowers, gardening, and cherishing the memory and love of his late wife, Ianthe. His life was marked by gentleness, service, and quiet strength.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Susan Calloway (Matthew); his grandson, Ian Goodge; his very special cousin and best friend, Ernest Collins, along with Ernest's children and grandchildren; his godsons, Jamar Dick and Danny Sumoro; and a host of friends and neighbors who will miss him dearly.
