Obituary

Russell Allen Glicksman, of Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2023, from complications of Fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome (FXTAS). He was at home with his family by his side.

Russ was born on April 15, 1939, in New York City to Charlotte (Simons) Glicksman and Allen Glicksman, a renowned portrait artist and cofounder of the Mamaroneck Artists Guild in Westchester County. Russ moved to Larchmont, New York at an early age, and spent the duration of his childhood there. After graduating from Mamaroneck High School, he attended Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, where he was a pitcher for the baseball team and earned a degree in psychology in 1961. From 1962-1965, he was an officer in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Hornet and reaching the rank of lieutenant (junior grade).

Russ spent the majority of his career in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he worked for 24 years at the Colonial Penn Group, serving as Executive Vice President of Operations. In 1989, he co-founded The Beam Group, an executive recruiting firm with offices in New York and Philadelphia, where he was President and CEO. During his career, Russ also served on the boards of the Greater Philadelphia YMCA, the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts and Philabundance. Throughout his life, Russ enjoyed splitting his time between Gladwyne and New York City. Russ was known for his passion for his family, traveling, golf and gardening, his wicked sense of humor and his fierce competitive spirit.

Russ is survived by his wife, Andrea Utecht; his four children, Curtis Ryan (Kristin), Carrie Peterson (Jay Lien), Christopher Utecht (Poorvi Goel) and Alexandra Utecht (Michael Budzinski); his grandchildren, Charlie Lien, Sam Lien, Rosetta Ryan and Hannah Budzinski; his sister, Linda Kennedy (Michael); and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank his dedicated caregivers, Mary, Oumie and Rose, as well as his nurses, Zena and Eileen.

The family will host a private celebration of Russ's life later this summer.
