Rosemary T.
Schmader
June 14, 1931 – June 11, 2024
Rosemary (Tobin) Schmader passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on June 11, 2024, three days shy of her 93rd birthday. She was known by Rose, but her family has affectionately and alternately referred to her as Rosemarie, Babs, Hon, Mom, Nana, Mom-Mom, or just "Ma." By any name she was loved.
Rose is predeceased by her dancing partner for life and husband of nearly 70 years, James "Jimmy" Schmader; by her eldest son Robert Schmader, his wife Susan (Jordan) Schmader and beloved daughter Lynn (Schmader) Forster and husband Donald. She is survived by her daughter Laurie (Schmader) VanTrieste and husband Dave; by her son Barry Schmader and wife Elizabeth; by a cadre of grandchildren (AJ, Jaime, Zach, Luke, Sara, Jackie, Dan, Max, Sam, and Anna); by six great grandkids; as well as by her older sister Eileen Ivers.
Rosemary was a lifetime resident of Haverford PA, for the most part in her childhood home, the famous Barrett Avenue House, which she and Jim eventually moved into and raised their own family over the next 65 years. Along with being a busy mother of four, long-term caretaker of her own father Anthony Tobin, and house manager of the sprawling house in Haverford, she worked alongside Jim, helping to operate Schmader's Garage in Bryn Mawr, PA for over 50 years.
Rose attended Our Mother of Good Counsel School, West Catholic, Lower Merion High School, and the Pierce School of Business, all of which rewarded her with lifelong friends. Most of all she loved dancing with Jim, taking care of her family, and entertaining her large circle of friends and family. She will be sadly missed by the many, many people whose lives she touched for the better.
Relatives and friends are invited on Monday June 17th, Visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 AM with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM all at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church, 31 Pennswood Rd., Bryn Mawr, PA. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
In lieu of flowers, reach out and reconnect to a loved one you haven't spoken to in a while. Rose would appreciate that.
