Obituary

Robert S. Stewart, of Naples, FL. and Malvern, PA., passed peacefully at Waverly Heights in Gladwyne, PA . on August 24, 2012. He was 89.

Son of the late Robert S. and Grace Dunn Stewart, he was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1923. He is survived by his son Robert Michael Stewart of Naples, FL and Malvern, PA. He was the husband of the late Ruth Ann Stewart (nee Dwyer), and loving father of the late Diane R. Stewart of Charleston, SC and David Stewart of Bryn Mawr, PA.

Mr. Stewart was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Commanding Officer of a ship in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war, he married and moved to the Philadelphia area where he worked for Sharpe & Dohme Pharmaceuticals and Quaker Chemical Corporation. He resided with his wife and two children in Rosemont, PA at that time. During the early 1970's he started his own company, Annandale Corporation, a specialty chemical company located in Charlotte, NC. After selling Annandale, he returned to the Philadelphia area with his wife and settled in Gladwyne, PA.

After the passing of his wife, he moved to Naples, FL. where he enjoyed his retirement. He was a member of the International Men's Club of Naples and was a member and/or supporter of various conservative organizations including the Heritage Foundation, Hillsdale College, The Leadership Institute, James Madison Institute, and the Tea Party. He was a contributor to The Disabled Veterans, American Red Cross, Boys Town, Mount St. Michaels Academy in New York City, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and to Ave Maria University in Naples, FL., to name a few.

His loss is profound.

A Viewing will be held on Friday August 31, from 7 to 9 PM at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore, PA. Funeral Mass will be Saturday September 1, 11:00 AM at St. John Vianney Church, 350 Conshohocken State Rd., Gladwyne, PA. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken, PA.
