Robert Joseph
Shallow
February 4, 1935 – January 12, 2017
Robert J. Shallow, age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 12, 2017 surrounded by his family in Doylestown, PA.
Born in Philadelphia on February 4, 1935, to Eleanor (Cooney) and James J. Shallow, Bob was the second of three children, bookended by beloved brothers James J. Shallow and Thomas J. Shallow (deceased). Bob was a 1952 graduate of Saint Joseph's Preparatory School and went on to graduate from Villanova University in 1956 with a degree in Economics. He later earned a Masters of Business Administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1958. With former wife Geraldine (Dynan) Shallow of Villanova, he is survived by four children: Alison Shallow of Plymouth Meeting, PA, Jennifer Shallow of Raleigh, N.C., Bob (Robin) Shallow of Buckingham, PA, and Meghan (Tim) McCumber of Mt. Olive, N.J., as well as seven grandchildren.
Early in his professional years, Bob recognized the potential of computers to improve and automate businesses. He had a successful career serving in myriad senior management roles with prominent companies in the information technology and fashion and apparel industries, including IBM, Ship & Shore, Murjani Group (Gloria Vanderbilt), Computer Identics, Leslie Fay, Tahari and Jockey. Throughout his life, he was ardent about education and concluded his career where he began it, as an adjunct professor teaching business and computer courses at Villanova University, while also mentoring young professionals.
Although Bob's career took him to Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Illinois, New Jersey and Florida, at heart he was always a "Philly guy" and returned to the area to be close to his passions: family, friends and his beloved Villanova Wildcats – Go Cats! He relished in sharing the doings and accomplishments of his kids, grandkids, brothers and scores of nieces and nephews. As well, he was devoted to numerous lifelong friendships, many dating back to his childhood. He was an enthusiastic skier with an affinity for Lake Tahoe, and an avid golfer with a hole-in-one on his scorecard. He maintained a strong connection to his Irish heritage, actively researching his lineage, connecting and engaging with distant relatives, and traveling around Ireland.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday January 17, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Saint Thomas of Villanova Church on the Villanova University campus, 800 Lancaster Avenue, Villanova, PA 19085. The family will greet friends and relatives at the Church prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken, PA.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bob's name to Hoppy's Hope,
