Robert I.
Hurley
April 19, 1958 – December 2, 2022
In fond remembrance of Robert Ignatius Hurley, the son of Joseph J., Sr., and Jane Higgins Hurley, 64, who passed away peacefully with his brothers and sisters by his bedside Friday, December 2, 2022. He is survived by Joseph J. Hurley, Jr. (Katie), James H. Hurley (Julia), John G. Hurley (Ellen), Margaret H. McConlogue (James), Catherine H. Johnson (Robert, deceased), Mary Jane Corzel (Kennedy), Regina Hurley, Daniel M. Hurley (Diane), Christine H. Henefer (Thomas), Thomas P. Hurley (Patricia), Suzanne H. McCormick (Peter), 28 nieces and nephews, and 6 great nieces and nephews.
Robert was a proud graduate of Archbishop Carroll High School Class of 1977. He lettered in both varsity ice hockey and varsity baseball. Robert was known by many nicknames that remind us of the great brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend he was during his life. In his school days he was known as Rob or Robby (also known as Beep to some). In his adult years he introduced himself as Bob, but the family nicknames are countless: Buffalo Bob, Boop, Boots, Bobby Boots, Belvedere, U.B. and Andy, to share a select few.
Regardless of when you met Bob, you knew for certain he was a straight shooter and someone you wanted to get to know better. Bob possessed a quick wit, and his amazing ability to crack jokes and tell stories are legendary across all his friends and family. A true gift that Bob left with those who knew him are the stories that are retold over and over and the laughter that instantly follows.
Bob had a keen interest in Harley Davidson motorcycles and never lost that attraction to the steel pony. His career path was not predictable, but the numerous paths he chose showed his love to build, construct, and shape with purpose. In the early years he was a motorcycle mechanic, which grew into an apprentice commercial electrician, and finally into carpentry. Bob rebuilt kitchens, constructed cabinetry, and made many other repairs; he was forever the fixer and rebuilder with so much ability.
In addition, Bob was an endlessly caring individual. He was a primary caregiver for both his mother and father in their later years. It is not an overstatement to say that Uncle Bob, U.B., was a second father figure to his 28 nieces and nephews. Through many camping trips, overnights and summertime hot dogs on the grill, the memories and hissy fits were plentiful. And the parents and children are all forever grateful for that great big heart.
