Obituary

Richard George Weber, born on August 1, 1942 in Crawfordsville, IN.

Loving and faithful husband to Jean. Devoted father to Julie Weber (Ricardo) Ugarte, Matthew (Michelle) Weber, Sarah (Andy) Golden, and Katie (Greg) Schroeder. Adored by 12 grandchildren: Madeline (Drew Dunne), Bridgette, and Simon Ugarte; Thomas and Elizabeth Weber; Marie, Samuel, and Elise Golden; and Leo, Henry, Grant, and Willa Kate Schroeder. Proud uncle to many nieces and nephews, and a friend to everyone he met.

He was the beloved son of Thomas August Weber and Marie Graef Weber of Jamestown, IN (formerly of Indianapolis, IN) and brother of Thomas William Weber and Ann Marie Weber, all of whom he now joins eternally in Heaven.

Rick, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He never passed a stranger without saying hello, and everyone became a friend. His journey on earth was marked by an unwavering love for his family, a compassionate spirit, friendship, an unmatched work ethic, and deep faith in God. The void left by his passing points to the many people across the country who were touched by him. He will be remembered by the way his life was lived and for the profound impact he had on so many.

Rick built a strong career as an entrepreneur, which started at the young age of 10 trapping and selling pelts and painting houses, and only soared from there. After graduating from Butler University and the Indiana University School of Medicine Program of Physical Therapy, Rick served in the United States Public Health Service. He then founded Health Mark/Therapy Works physical therapy practice in 1984, and after years of great success, sold it to Physiotherapy Associates/Stryker Corp where he worked as a Regional Manager. After retiring from the corporate world, he returned to running his own clinic in Avon, IN, and after 40 years of experience, retired as a practicing physical therapist in 2005, when he and Jean retired to live in downtown Chicago. Even in retirement, he maintained a successful secondary career in commercial and residential real estate, as well as a position as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Marriott Mountain Valley Lodge in Breckenridge, CO. Rick never met a job he couldn't tackle.

Over his prosperous career, he earned many awards including the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest honorary award given by the Governor of Indiana for exemplary service to the state; the Frances C. Ekstam Award for Excellence in Physical Therapy; and an academic scholarship to Butler University.

He was proud to be part of the Boy Scouts of America, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, the Kiwanis Club of Crawfordsville, Indiana Medical Licensing Board, American Physical Therapy Association Indiana Chapter, Columbia Club, Skyline Club, and the American Legion.

His group of friends in Crawfordsville were family to him, with summers and holidays spent celebrating with the "family campers." Later in life, he developed a love of biking, which allowed him to explore Indianapolis and then Chicago and Philadelphia, where he was known to show up at his grandchildren's sporting events in full gear after mastering the ever-difficult rules of trekking your bike on public transportation.

Rick never stopped traveling to visit his family and friends around the globe; he was the loudest cheerleader for those he loved; he lived active and out loud—skiing, biking, delivering homemade bread, and sharing a hot coffee. He was demonstrative in his love and always smiling with his childlike spirit. And, he was forever a proud Hoosier. Let's live like Rick today: "Be lucky, work hard, believe in yourself and be proud of what you do."
