Peter A.
Olson
October 28, 1946 – March 29, 2024
Peter Albert Olson died Friday, March 29 at 7:04 pm with his loving wife Mary B Templeton at his side. He was 77 years old.
The only child of Albert Olson and Josephine Morkoski, Peter was born and raised in Middletown, Connecticut. Although his mother died when Peter was only twelve years old, the hiking, boating and fishing she introduced him to set the pattern for a love of the outdoors which continued throughout his life.
After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown, Peter attended Fairfield University, graduating in 1969 with a degree in Economics, another great interest that he pursued throughout his life in occasional graduate work, personal study, and many successful ventures in the real estate and stock markets.
After college, Peter served in the US Army from 1969 to 1971, attached to NATO Command in Frankfurt, Germany. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and he attained the rank of M14 Sharpshooter.
After serving his country, Peter served his state for more than a decade as manager in the insurance claims administration division with the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
He met Mary Brem Templeton in 1983. They married in 1986 and Peter left Connecticut, to embark with Mary on her peripatetic career as an attorney, which took them to San Francisco, Manhattan, and finally to Bucks County, Pennsylvania where they settled to be near Mary's aging parents.
Peter was a man of unusual fortitude, patience, and wit. His approach to life was to develop a compassionate and amused acceptance of the world as it is. He was a contented man, finding all that he needed in all that he had, especially in the love and companionship of the wide web of friendships that stretched from New England to Manhattan to California to Canada.
His outdoor interests eventually led him to own several boats — dinghies, yachts, kayaks, even a flashy tugboat — but his life as an outdoorsman probably reached its apotheosis when Mary's family introduced him to Club Lac Pythonga, a hunting and fishing club in Quebec. Peter and Mary spent many happy days at Pythonga. He purchased and refurbished a sweet log cabin and looked forward to spending more time there in the years ahead. He was pleased and honored to be elected to the Board and served with skill, energy, and real affection for the club and its members.
He will be remembered for his devotion to his Siberian Huskies, for his magisterial holiday parties, for his many hobbies, and for a life lived in kindness, fun and devotion to Mary, her family and his many friends.
Peter will be celebrated at a memorial to be held at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 West Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore, Pennsylvania 19003 on Tuesday April 16th, with a Visitation from 10 to 11 AM and Funeral Service to begin at 11 AM, followed immediately by interment at Calvary Cemetery in Conshohocken.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to favorite charities, especially those that support cancer research, such as the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania. And the family offers a sincere thank you to the many specialists, care providers and technicians at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania who were involved in Peter's care.
