Patricia J. Rooney, of Philadelphia, PA., passed away on February 6, 2017. She was 82.
Daughter of the late Joseph Francis Rooney and Marguerite Marie Morrow Rooney, she was born in Philadelphia on September 8, 1934.
Pat was a graduate of Rosemont College and did graduate course study at University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University and Temple University. Pat had an extensive work history with her principal interest being in communications- writing, speaking, networking, managing programs and desk top publishing. Some of her more prominent employment endeavors included working for Rosemont College from 1995-1998 as Director of Alumni Relations. Here she supervised alumni records and developed new initiatives in alumnae outreach including development/cultivation, print communications, special programs and events and public relations and marketing. She worked at the Providence Center in Philadelphia from 1998-2003 as the Director of Development and Communications. Here she was involved in grant writing, preparation of materials and development of funding sources. She handled press releases, designed and edited newsletters, prepared spread sheets and statistical reports and acted as a Board of Directors liaison. Most recently she was the director of Temple Association for Retired Persons (TARP) at Temple University in Philadelphia from 2003-2007. She was tasked with managing an educational program in an urban environment for 600 senior members. She created a strategy/program launching the organizations first development efforts, resulting in a three-year grant of $1 million for the association beginning in 2008. She oversaw the organizational budget, developed communications strategies and materials to market the program externally and internally resulting in an increased membership of nearly 40% in four years. She planned and coordinated special events and coordinated and directed the activities of volunteers.
She is survived by her sister Alice Mary Lawler and niece Maggie Kirk (Jonathan). She was preceded in death by her twin sister Marguerite "Peggy" Rooney.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday February 10, 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Church, 20
th
& Locust Sts., Philadelphia. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at the Church from 9 to 10:15 AM. Interment will be Private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rosemont College, Office of Development, 1400 Montgomery Ave., Rosemont PA 19010.
