Patricia "Pat" McCarthy Morley passed away peacefully December 27, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Pat was born April 24, 1931 and raised in Lansdowne. The eldest of three children, she started her journey in lifelong roles as big sister, teacher, storyteller, friend and adventurer.  She was the wife of the late James J. (Jim) Morley, who died in 1996.

Pat attended Lansdowne High School and graduated from West Chester Teacher's College. After attaining her master's in education from Penn State University, Pat began her teaching career in Bala Cynwyd, PA.  Having read an advertisement for overseas teaching roles, Pat left home in 1958 and spent two years teaching in Saudi Arabia for Saudi Aramco.  Her return home saw her travel for six months through the Middle East, India and Asia, a time in her life that fueled a love of travel and provided a source of stories that would be shared with others throughout her full life.

Pat spent a lifetime actively engaged in the community and as a board member for a number of organizations including The Emergency Aid of Pennsylvania, Inglis House, Philadelphia Hospitality, The Franklin Institute, the Cosmopolitan Club and as a local and National Board Member of the American Cancer Society where she played a leading role championing the restriction of smoking in public places.

A love of golf and playing bridge kept her active and engaged with others. Pat and Jim were longtime members of the Union League of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Country Club and the Sedgley Club.

Pat led a full and storied life highlighted by the love she had for family and friends.  She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her ability to light up a room with her presence, for an incomparable memory for people and places. She could remember the name of any hotel and its lobby bar in the world she had visited. Pat expressed a genuine concern for the humanity of others, which was evident in her dedication to volunteer work and in her day-to-day interaction with others.

She is survived by her two children, Elizabeth and Greg, their spouses, John Hostetler and Shawn Hiltz, and her two grandchildren, Stella and Louis. Her children Carol and Jimmy preceded her in death.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Pat's extraordinary life on Saturday January 13th with a visitation from 10 to 11:00am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am at St John Vianney Church, 350 Conshohocken State Road, Gladwyne, PA 19035 . Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.   For those unable to attend the service, the Funeral Mass will be livestreamed on the parish website at www.sjvgladwyne.com.
