Obituary

Patricia R. Cosgrave (nee Richards) of Haverford, PA and Nantucket, MA passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025 at her Haverford home at the age of 83.

Patti was predeceased by her parents, Rhoda W. Richards and J. Permar Richards, Jr. She is survived by her brother J. Permar Richards III "Rick" (Nancy).

She was the beloved wife of the late Michael R. Cosgrave, Sr. with whom she shared 32 wonderful years of marriage. Patti was the devoted mother of Michael R. Cosgrave, Jr. (Allegra) and Matthew R. Cosgrave (Heather). She was blessed with three granddaughters: Allegra P. "Trishie" Cosgrave, Perry W. Cosgrave and Tess A. Cosgrave. She was the proud Aunt of J. Permar Richards IV "Jay" (Lindsay) and Todd W. Richards (Mary) and Great Aunt of Courtney W. Richards.

Patti was born in Philadelphia, PA. She attended the Agnes Irwin School for both grade school and high school and was a member of the graduating class of 1959. She attended Pine Manor College and earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania.

Patti married Michael in December, 1964.

In addition to being a devoted mother and wife, Patti was actively involved in many civic and charitable organizations where she donated her time and talents for decades. As a lifelong resident of Lower Merion Township, Patty was a committee person for the Republican Party for more than 50 years. She was very passionate in keeping voters informed about issues and candidates. She also held positions on the Republican Committee of Lower Merion and Narberth, the Republican Women of the Main Line and the Montgomery County Republican Women's Leadership.

Over the years, Patti served on many boards and committees including the Gladwyne Library League, the Haverford Civic Association, Inglis House, ElderNet of Lower Merion and Narberth and the Appleford Committee.

At the time of her death, Patti was on the Board of Trustees of Ursinus College, serving as liaison to the Philip and Muriel Berman Museum of Art a program that she was very passionate about.

Patti was a life-long member of Philadelphia Country Club and the Union League of Philadelphia.

In the summers, Patti would take some time off from all her boards and committees and go to her "happy place" Nantucket Island. She loved spending time "on island" and was the ultimate host to many friends and family who would visit her home "Seahaven."

Patti never met an animal she didn't like. She always had a dog companion with her. Even at her death, she had her beloved "Beau" right beside her.

Patti will be remembered for her wonderful friendship, kindness, strength and independence and her unwavering love for her family and friends. She will be missed by all.
