Obituary

We are devastated to announce the passing of Michele DiMario, 44, of King of Prussia, PA. Michele passed away at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 surrounded by loving family members, from complications of Aplastic Anemia. Michele was born in Springfield Hospital in Springfield, PA, and attended Kutztown University. After a brief time at Suncoast, she joined UHS, Inc. in King of Prussia. She worked there for over 20 years, most recently as Assistant Director of Payroll, and she was a winner of the Service Excellence Award.

Michele's viewing will be at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore, PA on Thursday March 9th, from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by a service from 12 pm to 1 pm.  Casual dress is fine, and flip-flops are both optional and encouraged.

Michele made friends everywhere she went and with everyone she encountered professionally and socially. She had more best friends than most people have acquaintances. She was always there for anyone in need, giving her time and energy to care for others before thinking of herself. She was quick to smile, always ready to laugh, and ever-prepared with some kind of delicious food to share. And when you were with Michele, you had to be ready to share because everyone was trying everything, and every sandwich, cookie, and donut was being cut into shareable sizes. That was part of the Michele experience: she wanted everyone to be part of all the things that she loved because she loved creating happy memories with the people she cared about. She was like the anti-Grinch: her heart was (metaphorically) three sizes larger than everyone else's.

Michele always looked forward to brunch with her girlfriends and was an avid Phillies fan. She was a terrific cook - gravy, not sauce - and enjoyed trying new restaurants and finding new places on road trips. She loved the outdoors, hiking, and camping and adored her dog, Maggie. Finally, Michele appreciated the outstanding care she received from everyone at all levels of Penn Medicine.

Michele is survived by her parents, Mike and Mary Jo DiMario; her older sister and partner, Christin DiMario and Dru Holmquist; and younger sister and brother-in-law, Nicole and Frank Shump; her cousins Nicholas and Nadine DiMario, Rocco and Natalie, and Joe and Lisa Fiordaliso; by Andrew Harker, her best friend and life partner; his parents, Tom and Audrey Harker, and Annette and Daniel Hensley; his brother, Thomas Harker Jr.; his Sister-in-Law, Joanne Harker, and her children, Aliya, Akiva, Colin, Sloane, and Shea Harker; and step-siblings, nieces and nephews: Mike, Jen, Kiley, and Aislyn Rusak; Kevin, Jillian, Layla, and Miles Ryan; and Sean, Tonya, Averie, Liam, Dillon, and Isaac Rosenberger Ryan; and best friends, Diane Lee and Matt Elias, and their sons, Levi and Isaac Elias.

Gifts can be made in Michele's memory to the Innovations in Oncology Care Fund at Penn Medicine. The fund provides financial support to emerging and innovative improvements to oncology care within the Division of Hematology and Oncology in the Department of Medicine.  Checks can be noted as in memory of Michele Dimario and made payable to the Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania and mailed to Katie Dewees Detzel, Penn Medicine Development, 3535 Market Street, Ste 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104 or made online at https://giving.apps.upenn.edu/find-fund (and select the fund above).
