Michael John
Clark
January 1, 1968 – July 9, 2023
Michael John Clark, a long-time resident of Narberth, PA peacefully passed away at home on Sunday Morning, July 9th, 2023 at 8:00 am with family by his side. He was 55 years young.
Mike was the son of James J. Clark and Mary C. Clark (both deceased) of Narberth, Pa. He was the first child born in Philadelphia, after midnight, on New Year's Day in 1968. He was adopted by James and Mary Clark in February of that year and became the youngest of their family of 5 children. Mike always spoke about how wonderful his childhood was when growing up. From riding his bike everywhere to the family trips to Escanaba, Michigan. He joined the USMC (United States Marine Corps) in September 1986 and proudly served until June 1991. He participated in Operation Desert Shield/Storm in 1991 earning him the Persian Gulf Combat Action ribbon amongst quite a few others.
After the corps, Mike came back to Pa and got a job with Sunoco, now part of Energy Transfer Partners. He was a dock worker, station operator, and then became a pipeliner. His job as a pipeliner gave him the opportunity to go out to South Dakota to help work on the Dakota Access Pipeline. This is something he dreamed of doing since the project was started.
Mike is the beloved husband of Jennifer Anne Clark (Sides) of 33 years. Proud Father to Sara Caroline Clark and Michael Scott Clark. He is survived by his 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Jim (Mary Kay), Pat (Barb), Frankie (Daisy), Julie Broderick (Steve), 5 nieces, 5 nephews, and his cousins. Mike is also survived by Rick and Kathy (his birth mom) Walker and his half-sister and brother, Sydney and Spencer Walker and 3 nieces and 3 nephews. Meeting his birth Mom and family was one of the most influential moments of Mike's life. On Mike's birth father's side, he is survived by his Grandma, Walda Sause, and his 3 cousins all residing in Connecticut, as well as his birth father, his wife, and 2 half brothers.
Mike was diagnosed with CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) close to 22 years ago. He went through multiple lines of treatment during this time that helped slow down the CLL enough that he could live and enjoy his life. Mike was able to share his CLL journey through speaking at drug company events and LLS (Leukemia Lymphoma Society) events as well. He also participated in the CLL Society as a co-moderator for the local group for a bit. Mike made a lot of friends along the way. They provided each other with encouragement and emotional support through their individual CLL journeys. For the last 9 years, Mike has been with the hematology/oncology team at Abramson Cancer Center at Penn in Philadelphia. Being under their care and having access to drug trials allowed Mike to live and enjoy his life longer than we imagined when he was first diagnosed with CLL. We are so thankful to all the Drs, nurses, and support staff at Penn that were part of providing MIke with such excellent care. Also for listening to and laughing at the jokes Mike loved to share. A big hug to Dr. Stephen Schuster and Nurse Ellen Napier, we couldn't have gotten through all this without your guidance and constant support. Thank you ALL so much!
Mike loved his family and lived his life to the fullest. Mike's outgoing personality led to his many interests. He would research it and be able to tell you anything you wanted to know about it and then some. Mike had a long list of things that interested him. Some examples are bourbon whiskey, Coleman lanterns, motorcycles, canoes, old Schwinn bicycles, jadeite glassware, and much more. Mike enjoyed road trips, traveling, and visiting family and friends. Now that the kids are grown, Mike loved spending his weekends away with Jenn. They would drive through the mountains of Carlisle, Pa, down through country roads, having picnics, swimming in the lake and just relaxing in their hammocks amongst the pine trees. He also loved going up to the cabin with his brother Pat and guys weekend with his cousins and brothers.
Mike was so proud of his kids and their accomplishments in life, loved them dearly, and cherished all the adventures he would go out on as a family and with the kids individually. Both Sara and Scott plan to live life to the fullest in his honor.
In honor of Mike, the family will be having an open house, at the home of Pat and Barb Clark at 6 Wynnedale Circle, Narberth, Pa on Wednesday July 19th, 2023 from 7-9 pm. Casual attire is required and no black, please. There will be desserts and drinks provided. We will all gather, share stories and celebrate Mike's life the way he would want it celebrated. If you could, before you come, please write down something about your relationship with Mike. Like a funny story about him, how you met or know him, something he said or did that made you laugh. Don't be shy about including colorful adjectives that Mike may have used when writing your note, because that IS Mike! Pictures are welcome as well. There will be a memory box where people can drop their notes in. If you are not able to attend that night and would still like to write a note, please email or send it to Pat Clark's address above and he will deliver it to Jenn. These notes will be read and reread by Jenn and the family to help us get through the tough days ahead.
