Obituary

Michael L. Campbell of Ardmore, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.

Michael was born April 2, 1947, the son of James P. and Elizabeth O. Campbell of Ardmore. Michael was raised and lived in Ardmore until he attended the University of Georgia. Following graduation, he returned to the Ardmore area where he would remain for life except for seven years in Albany, Oregon.  Michael pursued a number of careers during his life, including the trash and removals business, surveying work for Amtrak and running his own handyman and gardening business. He was most proud of his status with the State of Pennsylvania as a Master Gardner.

Known as an exceptionally kind and generous man, Michael cherished his roles as husband, father and grandfather. Michael was always willing to help one in need.  He loved the outdoors and working in his vegetable garden. Michael was a gifted cook, especially known for his salads, beef on the grill and Thanksgiving stuffing. He was a committed runner and completed five marathons. Michael travelled extensively in Scotland, Europe and his beloved Ireland. Proud of his Irish heritage, Michael became an Irish citizen in 2020.

Michael was also known for his devotion to friends and those in recovery, to crossword puzzles and to reading. He collected books, particularly those of the Civil War. He was a loyal patron of the area libraries. Finally, he was a steadfast volunteer at the condominium association where he resided.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Elizabeth, Thomas, Jane, James, Sarah, and Edward. He is survived by his wife Lorraine "Lori" Farquhar of Ardmore, children Matthew L. Campbell (Eden Celeste)of Portland, OR and Laurel Ann Campbell Harrold of Portland, OR, his first wife Barbara Carnegie Campbell of Portland, OR, stepson Justin L. Ettinger (Caroline Watson) of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, grandchildren Jakob Harrold, Kailey Harrold, Brieana Wilson and Jessie Transue all of Portland, OR, and sister Nance Campbell-Connolly (John Connolly) of Glen Mills.

A Visitation will be held at the William C. McConaghy Ltd. Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore, PA on Wednesday, October 6 at 7:00 P.M. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life at 8:00 P.M.

The family asks that anyone attending the service wear masks.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in memory of Michael L. Campbell to the Ardmore Library, 108 Ardmore Avenue, Ardmore, PA 19003.
