Mary Corr
Heuisler Veith
August 21, 1938 – February 24, 2020
Mary Corr Heuisler Veith, a long time resident of Overbrook Farms, died peacefully with her loving family by her side on February 24, 2020 from complications related to Alzheimer's.
The eldest of seven, Mary was born on August 21, 1938. She was educated at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, graduating with honors in 1956 as well as being the class valedictorian. After raising seven children of her own, she continued her education with an undergraduate degree from St. Joseph's University in Sociology and earned her master's degree in Social Work from Bryn Mawr College. Beginning her career as a social worker for Albert Einstein Medical Center in 1980 she went on to become the Director of Social Services for St. Agnes Medical Center, until she retired in 2012.
During her time at St. Agnes, Mary championed those living with AIDS and their families. With her son Jack, who died of the disease in 1985, as her inspiration, Mary committed herself to educating the healthcare community both locally and nationally in the compassionate care for those afflicted with the disease. In 1998, she was the recipient of the Robert M. Gillin, Jr. Award where she was recognized for her tireless work and dedication in creating a "climate of compassion" for patients and their families affected by the AIDS crisis.
Mary is survived by her loving and devoted children Christopher (Sylvie), Gregory (Patricia), Hilaire (Michael) Beran, Stephen (Nicole), Alexander (Gina) and Shelagh (Daniel) Donohue, as well as her siblings Christine (Timothy) Durkin, Charles(Judy) Heuisler, Barbara Heuisler, Judy (Vince) Small, John(Anne) and Helen Heuisler; her 15 grandchildren, and innumerable family and friends—all of whom will miss her beyond measure. She is preceded in death by her parents, Issac and Mary Heuisler (nee Smith) and her beloved son, John (Jack) Veith.
Mary was a lover of many things; being lost in a book, black coffee, singing Broadway show tunes , floating on her back in the ocean, and spirited debate on almost any topic(preferably in a fine restaurant enjoying her favorite white zinfandel.) But always, first and foremost, was her family of which she was the epicenter.
A Visitation will be held on Friday February 28th, from 6 to 8 PM at the McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore, PA. Funeral Mass be on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 6301 Woodbine Ave., Philadelphia. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
