Obituary

Mary Mullen Guidera, a long-time resident of the Main Line died Saturday morning December 6, 2008 at Saunders House in Wynnewood. She was 81. The devoted mother of 10 children, Daisy, as she was known to her 27 grandchildren, was born in Sea Cliff, N.Y., in 1927, to Frank Mullen and Mae Reilly Mullen, Her father, a career Navy man, was a diver and water polo player for the U.S. Olympic team that competed in Antwerp in 1920. She traveled often as a child, beginning school in Idaho and eventually returning to Long Island, where she graduated high school. She graduated from Marymount Junior College in Manhattan in 1948. Mary was married in 1950 to John M. Guidera, a former Navy pilot and salesman and entrepreneur. They moved often throughout their marriage, eventually settling on the Main Line in 1970. Mary and her husband were members of Merion Golf Club and she was a parishioner at St. Thomas of Villanova for 38 years.

Mary was an avid gardener and loved to sew. She designed and produced six custom wedding dresses for each of her daughters, draperies and slipcovers for her children's homes along with clothing for her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and is survived by her children: John M., Jr. (wife, Maria), Ann Guidera-Matey (husband, Edward), James F. (partner, Edward Parran), Mamie Guidera (husband, Peter J. McGuinness), Peggy Power (husband, Jim), Eileen Guidera Ford (husband, Rich), Michael (wife, Lesley), Sheila G. Palmer (husband, Bob), Megan G. Scheri (husband, Steve) and the late Patrick J. Guidera.

She was known affectionately as Daisy to her 27 grandchildren and is survived by her grandchildren: Terry (wife, Kristen), Emily, James, and Maggie Power and Brigid Power Austin(husband, Ben); Sean, Kevin, Cara and Angie McGuinness; Tim, Dan and Colleen Ford; Ted, Laura and Sara Matey; Julia, Celia and Olivia Guidera; Caitlin, Michael and Christopher Guidera; Jack, Matthew and Elise Palmer; and Patrick, Nicholas and Joseph Scheri.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday December 10, 11:00 AM at St. Thomas of Villanova Church on the Villanova University Campus, Lancaster Ave., Villanova, PA. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
