Mary Alice Conway (nee Lawler), of Rosemont, formerly of Bala Cynwyd, PA., passed away on Sunday October 8, 2006 at The Bryn Mawr Hospital. She was 96.
Daughter of the late Patrick J. and Alice Hertzog Lawler, she was born in Bala Cynwyd, PA in 1909. She attended St. Matthias Parish School, Merion Mercy Academy and Pierce Junior College. She was a lifelong member of St. Matthias Church, having been baptized there in 1909. In 1930 she was married to Joseph I. Conway, proprietor of the Egyptian Theatre in Bala, the marriage service celebrated by Denis Cardinal Dougherty. Mary Alice was a long time member of the Bala Cynwyd Women's Club and the Lower Merion Historical Society.
Mary Alice was preceded in death by her husband Joseph I. Conway; son James J. Conway; sisters Margaret, Eileen and Rose; brothers Patrick, John and James. Survived by her daughter-in-law Irene R. Conway; grandchildren Claire A. Conway, Cathy Hetznecker (James) and Jim Conway, Jr. (Kellyann); great-granddaughters Lydia, Kaitlyn, Willa and Kelsey; as well as 14 nieces and nephews; and dozens of great nieces, nephews and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday October 11, 11:00 AM at St. Matthias Church, Bryn Mawr and Highland Aves., Bala Cynwyd, PA. Relatives and friends may call at the Church after 10:00 AM. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Rosemont Presbyterian Village Friendship Fund, 404 Cheswick Pl., Rosemont, PA 19010 or to the St. Matthias Sanctuary Fund, 128 Bryn Mawr Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
