Mary Ann Bruder Flanigan arrived at the gates of heaven armed with a golf club on Thanksgiving morning — November 24, 2022. She had a tee time with her brothers Tom, Jim, and Mike for 18 holes. Their round of golf was followed by a laughter-filled dinner with her sister Pat, her brothers, and her brothers-in-law Jay and Al. Dinner was hosted by her parents Thomas and Mary, who have been patiently holding the table since 1967. After a bit of dessert, likely ice cream, with the remainder of her heaven-side family and friends, she resumed her work of watching over the rest of us to make sure we all get to the party when our time on earth is done.
Mary Ann was born on September 12, 1937, and forever changed the world for the better. Mary Ann is survived by her former husband and eternal partner Paul Flanigan, Sr., and their children Mary Ann Wagner (Don), Chrissy, Tracy O'Connor (Mike), Paul (Julie), Shauna, Megan, Katie (Scott, deceased), and Jamie Sullivan (Ryan) and 15 grandchildren. Mary Ann and Paul's infant daughter and infant son predeceased her. Mary Ann's life and legacy continues to be celebrated by all of her Bruder and Flanigan relatives, including her beloved sister Janet Tegler, her sisters-in-law Kate, Maripeg, Eddie, and Meredith Bruder, her nieces and nephews and their children, and by her by her enormous, yet close-knit, group of friends.
Mary Ann - known as Mom, Mom Mom, Aunt Mary Ann, Mrs. Flanigan, and Mare – had one laser focused goal of getting to heaven and bringing the rest of us with her. Part one of her goal was reached on Thanksgiving. Although bringing the rest of us with her to heaven seems to be an incredibly daunting initiative, she has filled our hearts and lives with a tremendous amount of love, support, and inspiration to get us there. And for the rest of us left earth-side, every minute you spent with her or in her thoughts brought her and you closer to part two of her goal. She was a woman of deep faith, an exceptional athlete, fierce competitor, entrepreneur, and terrific friend. Mary Ann was the life of the party, judge of no one, fan of animals (particularly her long line of tiny dogs), voice for the left out, and champion of all. Above all else, she is our superb mom, mother-in-law, and Mom Mom. To know her is to love her and be loved. We will honor her goal and legacy by striving to live like her and plan to meet her on the 19th hole.
