On January 1, 2012, Mary T. Betzler (nee Roddy), of Audubon, PA, formerly of Bryn Mawr, PA and Wildwood Crest, NJ., joined her husband, George J. Betzler in Heaven. She was 94. Just a few minutes past midnight, this beautiful couple was reunited for a New Year's Eve kiss.
Born to the late John Roddy and Mary Duffy Roddy on July 13, 1917, Mary Theresa joined brothers Jack and Tommy (Bud). This family celebrated their Irish immigrant heritage with many cousins, aunts and uncles who brought County Mayo to West Philadelphia. The Irish Hour on Sunday night radio was a must. All those basement jigs and reels will be reenacted among the angels.
George Betzler fell in love with this strong, stylish and striking girl, during their time at West Catholic High School. Mary insisted a wedding wait until she completed her studies at St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing. They were married in 1941, and from that union there came a multitude - seven children, 24 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren with one more on the way.
The legacy left behind by this great matriarch will be forever influenced by our very own Queen Mother Mary.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday January 5, 11 AM at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church, 31 Pennswood Rd., Bryn Mawr, PA. Relatives and friends may call at the Church after 9 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
