Martha Helene Cushwa (née Castaldi), of Gladwyne, formerly of Bala
Cynwyd, PA., passed away on January 6, 2021 at Bryn Mawr Hospital.
She was 92.

Daughter of the late S. Joseph Castaldi and the late Martha Helene
Cartwright Castaldi, she was born on August 29, 1928 in Philadelphia.
Martha was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, David H.
Cushwa. Devoted mother of Martha Short (Jim) and their children:
Christopher (Jamie) and Natalie (Eric); Molly Voss (Steve) and their
children: Michele Contreras (Mario), Kevin, Brian (Colleen), and Dan
(Kelley); David Cushwa (Lynn) and their children: Katie (Megan), David, and
Will; and Jim Cushwa (Deidre) and their children: Christine Bellew (Tom),
Annie, Jimmy and Carolyn. She was blessed with 9 great-grandchildren:
David, Benjamin, Emma, Charlotte, Jimmy, Clara, Lily, Alexander, and
Joseph.

She was a graduate of Mater Misericordiae Academy (now Merion Mercy
Academy) and Rosemont College.

Martha was a Girl Scout leader and Neighborhood Chairman; a board
member of the Bala Cynwyd Neighborhood Club; a volunteer speaker and
board member of Pennsylvanians for Human Life, who honored her with their
Lifetime Achievement Award; President of the St. Joseph's Prep Mothers Club;
St. Matthias representative to the Main Line World Day of Prayer; St.
Matthias Respect Life Representative; recipient of St. Matthias Parishioner
of the Year; and a H.O.P.E (Helping Other People in Emergencies)
volunteer.

Martha organized St. Matthias' first Red Cross Blood Drive and was the
first female Eucharistic Minister at St. Matthias.

Funeral services and interment are private. For those who would like to
participate remotely, the Mass will be livestreamed on Tuesday, January
12, 2021 at 10 AM at  www.sjvgladwyne.com
