Marjorie M.
Delaney
May 6, 1935 – December 1, 2022
Marjorie Mecke Delaney, 87, died peacefully December 1, 2022 under devoted care in the Muirfield community at Waverly Heights. The daughter of Janet L. and Charles M. Mecke, Marj was born May 6, 1935 and grew up in Bala Cynwyd, graduating from St. Mathias and the Shipley School. She spent summers in Avalon NJ. Marj is predeceased by her parents and her husband Dr. William E. Delaney III.
A long-time resident of Wynnewood, Marj worked many years in the office of Dr. William Hosner and later as receptionist at Waverly Heights, where she was remembered fondly upon her return as a resident in 2015. Marj was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Narberth, a proud lifelong blood donor and avid knitter of cancer caps and baby blankets.
Marj is survived by her sister Ann Mecke Penrose of Haverford and Narberth and eight cherished nieces and nephews and their families: Bob Penrose Jr. (Josepha) of Clermont NJ, Nancy Penrose (David Brooks) of Raleigh NC, Judy Penrose Smith of Glenside, Lauren Penrose of Lansdowne, Jean Penrose Arlotti of Phoenix AZ, Andy Penrose of Havertown, Amy (Jack) Entriken of Kutztown and Carolyn (Todd) Krulak of Birmingham AL. She has 13 grandnieces and nephews and seven great-grands. Marj also leaves behind the extended family of her late husband Bill.
Every one of these descendants knew they were special to Aunt Marj, who showered us with gifts and with understated attention--always there to celebrate birthdays, First Communions, graduations, weddings, new homes, new jobs, new family members, new adventures. Her love for us, her constant behind-the-scenes support, and her fun sense of humor will stay with us always. We will surely miss her on the porch at Avalon.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Marva Browne and the devoted staff and caregivers at Waverly Heights who blessed Aunt Marj's final years.
Relatives and friends are invited on Wednesday December 7th to her Viewing beginning at 9:30 AM followed by Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Margaret Catholic Church, 208 N. Narberth Ave., Narberth PA. Interment will follow in Westminster Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd PA.
Donations to the American Red Cross would be appreciated.
