Obituary

Marie Louise Thielens, age 95, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2021 surrounded by her children.

Born February 23, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA to Joseph A McDevitt and Marie L McDevitt, Dev graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and Rosemont College.

Preceded in death by her husband of 57 years James T. Thielens in 2009.  Dev and Jim lovingly raised their family in Villanova for their entire married life.  They are survived by their three children and their spouses - Ted and Karen Thielens, Lori and Paul Horning and Amy and John Buck. And seven grandchildren – Jamie Thielens and Allie (David) Bell; Katie, CJ (Erin) and Molly Horning; and Lanie and Caroline Buck.

Dev began her career at Lewis and Gilman, before taking time off to raise her family.  She was a dedicated Mother and Grandmother who never missed the numerous sporting events and performances of her children and grandchildren.  Later in life she returned to work in Development and Public Relations at Valley Forge Military Academy, and then her alma mater Rosemont College.

Dev was a dedicated parent volunteer throughout her children's education from Roland Elementary School through Radnor High School, including being president of the PTA coordinating council. Dev was a leader in the community through her active volunteer work with the Radnor Scholarship Fund, the Devon Horse Show and the Woman's Resource Center.  She was a second mother and role model to many.

Dev had countless friends and left a mark of love and kindness on every one she met.  She held her Sacred Heart and Rosemont friends close to her heart throughout her life. Dev was always impeccably dressed with a smile on her face.   She was an avid reader and bridge player. An active member of Martin's Dam for many years, she played tennis well into her 80's. She was a passionate Phillies and Eagles fan and was tech savvy with her own @mommom416 Instagram handle.

Above all, she loved nothing more than being surrounded by her family. The annual summer vacation to Sea Pines on Hilton Head Island for over 30 years was always the highlight of her year.
