Margaret M. "Marge" Kiely (nee McCloskey), of Devon, previously of Villanova, PA and Seabrook Island, SC, a former school teacher and mother of six and grandmother of 15, died on August 8, 2006, in Charleston, SC. as a result of injuries sustained in a tragic accident on July 21, 2006 on Seabrook Island, SC. She was 79.
Marge was born in Philadelphia and graduated from Mercy Academy and Chestnut Hill College (1949). She taught at The Sacred Heart School and later worked as a realtor on the Main Line for 25 years. During this time she served as a Republican Committeewoman in Merion and volunteered her time at Merion Mercy Academy and Rosemont School of the Holy Child. She was a former member of Aronimink Golf Club and Seabrook Island Club.
Marge shared her love for travel with her children, taking them around the globe – from the New Delhi, India to the Corn Palace in South Dakota. It was this spirit and sense of adventure that continued to take Marge to her beloved South Carolina.
Marge married Thomas J. Kiely, Jr. (deceased 1993) in 1953. She and Tom raised a family of six, five girls and a boy, in Merion and later, Villanova. She is survived by all six of her children – Margaret Kiely, Kate McDevitt (Peter), Mary Jane Collins (Kelly), Maureen Hogan (Matt), Tom Kiely (Patti), and Aimee Weise (Frank) – and 15 grandchildren. Additionally, Marge is survived by her sister, Jane M. Fitzpatrick, and a sister-in-law Kay Leydon, and her husband James Leydon.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 16th 11:00 AM at St. John Vianney Church, Youngsford and Conshohocken State Rds., Gladwyne. Relatives and friends may call at the Church after 9:30 AM. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham.
