Margaret Marie
Dougherty
October 11, 1923 – January 31, 2019
Margaret Marie "Peg" Dougherty, of Philadelphia, PA., passed away peacefully on January 31, 2019 at Saunders House in Wynnewood, PA. She was 95.
Daughter of the late John and Mary McLaughlin Dougherty, Peg was born on October 11, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA.
Margaret, or "Peg" as her legions of friends called her was a 90+ year resident of the Overbrook section of Philadelphia, and a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Peg graduated from West Catholic High School for Girls and was a regular attendee of their reunions for many years. She had a successful 49 year banking career, working her way up to be the executive assistant to the president at Philadelphia National Bank (now Wells Fargo). After retiring, she remained busy as a favorite babysitter for the families in her close knit neighborhood, and was much loved by her "kids" as well as their parents who considered her a part of their families. Peg traveled often to the Shore with friends, but her favorite trip was a cruise with her girlfriends. Peg was elected Minority Judge of Elections and loved working the polls for many years. Peg's interests and activities were many including being a member of the 65th Street Sunshine Club, volunteering at a national golf championship at Aronimink Gold Club, membership in a bowling league and the New Horizons Senior Center in Narberth. Peg will forever be remembered for her sense of humor, love of a good laugh and most especially for her thoughtfulness and kind words and deeds.
Peg was the dear sister of the late John Dougherty. She is survived by many cousins and numerous friends and neighbors, all of whom will miss her friendship, warm smile and cheerful laugh.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation at 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM on Saturday February 16, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 63 rd St. & Lancaster Ave., Philadelphia, PA. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Main Line Health Homecare & Hospice , 240 N. Radnor-Chester Rd., Radnor PA 19087.
