Obituary

Melville Curtis Young, passed away suddenly on November 14, 2022 at Beaumont in Bryn Mawr. He was 87.
Son of the late James Houston Young and Evelyn Curtis Young, he was born on May 19, 1935 at the Bryn Mawr Hospital. Mr Young entered The Episcopal Academy (EA) in 1939 and was a member of the class of 1954. In 1958, he graduated from Trinity College, in Hartford, CT, where he majored in Business Administration and was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
Mr. Young started his career in the wholesale pharmaceutical industry in 1959. He experienced a successful tenure in the Treasury Division, retiring as an executive of AmerisourceBergen Corporation in 1995.
He had a passion for the game of golf. In his younger days, he was a "scratch" player, won numerous trophies and had 3 career hole-in-ones. Mr Young joined the Philadelphia Seniors association in 1992 and served as it's President in 2005-2007. Mr Young had been a member of Merion Golf Club since 1967, and even through this summer, enjoyed the camaraderie of playing 18 holes with his friends.
Mr. Young's loyalty and generosity to EA never wavered. He established the M. Curtis Young 1954 Faculty Fund to provide additional resources to attract, recruit and train quality faculty. He was a frequent spectator at EA football, basketball and baseball games and was a proud EA father and grandfather.
He also established and maintained a scholarship fund at Malvern Prep to honor his oldest son, M. Curtis Young Jr who died in a car accident a decade after his graduation.
Mr. Young was also predeceased by his wife, Jane L. Young, and is survived by his two children, Jim Young (Michelle) and Laura Young Murphy (Brian), his six grandchildren, Chase, Eliza, Ford and Judge Murphy, and House and Campbell Young, as well as his sister, Barbara Young Camp.
Relatives and friends are invited to share in a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 14, 2023, 11:00 am at The Class of '44 Chapel at The Episcopal Academy on 1785 Bishop White Drive, Newtown Square, PA.
