Obituary

Louisa Cooper Dubin shuffled off this mortal coil on August 30, 2022. Born June 16, 1937 in Baltimore, MD to Eleanor and Crossan Cooper, Lulu (as she was known to her close family and often irreverent children) was the youngest of their three children. She grew up roaming the hills of Windy Gates on her pony Clarence and was educated at Calvert School, Foxcroft, and eventually Bryn Mawr College.

In 1960, Louisa married Charles (Tim) Brown. While the marriage ended in divorce, the extended Brown family has always remained close. After moving to Buffalo, NY in 1972, Louisa earned a Master's in from Buffalo State University, with a focus on special education and incorporating physical activity into curricula for students with developmental disabilities. It was there, too, in 1980 that she married Will, who introduced her to the game of squash and fed her love of travel.

After moving to Wynnewood, PA in 1984, Louisa and Will volunteered at the Gesu School, tore up the local squash courts, and created a welcoming home for the blended Dubin-Brown family. Holidays were celebrated with raucous ping pong matches and more than adequate amounts of wine. When not on the court or hosting family, Will and Louisa had copiously documented grand adventures on six of the seven continents until Will's death in 1997.

People refer to Alzheimer's as the long goodbye, and, after her initial diagnosis, Louisa moved to The Quadrangle to ensure ongoing support. She continued her volunteer work and travel until the disease slowed her down; however, she remained an ace ping pong competitor 2020, when COVID curtailed getting together.

Louisa is survived by her children Charles Brown (Marni Centor), Loulie Brown (Brannon Lamp), Derek Dubin, Dreux Claiden (Richard), Drake Dubin (Cynthia), and five amazing grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by many godchildren, nieces and nephews, and an extended family that includes Gesu School graduates and devoted caregivers.
