Obituary

Louis Nemeth, passed away from a stroke on November 26, 2018 in Haverford, PA. after a long and adventurous life that crossed continents and careers.  He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane Grey Nemeth of 56 years, two beloved sons, Wayne Louis and Richard Grey Nemeth, two lovely daughters-in-law, Petra and Amber, his adoring sister, Magdalena, and five loving Grandchildren, Peter Louis, Lara Anna, Philip Walter, Charlotte Grey, and Cameron Louis.

He was born near Budapest, Hungary on January 31, 1932, in the historic town of Esztergom, where he came of age during WW11. He graduated from the Technical University of Budapest in 1954, and began his engineering career as superintendent of a steam power plant outside of Budapest before escaping from his home country after the Hungarian Revolution failed in 1956. He immigrated to the United States where he worked for Air Products in Allentown, PA, then moved to Philadelphia where he was an engineer at United Engineers. He took courses at the University of Pennsylvania toward a master's degree, became a registered engineer in most states on the East Coast, and was a director of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He joined the engineering firm of Allabach & Rennis, in Philadelphia, and became Vice President and Chief Engineer before starting his own company, Nemeth Construction Company, in 1976. He developed numerous town houses and built family homes in suburban Philadelphia, winning a number of awards from the Main Line Builder's Association where he also served as president for two years. He was well-known for his designs of open plans, large windows, fireplaces, wine cellars, and respect for the natural settings of his projects.

Louis was an avid sailor, sailing mostly out of Oxford, Maryland on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay and Barnegat Light in New Jersey.  He also adored classical music and attended many operas in Philadelphia, New York, and in Europe. He played the piano for his own enjoyment, skied, traveled extensively, and enjoyed playing tennis until he was 85. His love for his family and close friends was a constant thread throughout his interesting and active life.

There will be a memorial reception in the Nemeth home in early February and a private burial in Oxford, Md.
