Obituary

Lewis McMakin Pettinos, age 77, of Devon, PA and Vero Beach, FL, passed away on October 24, 2009 at Devon Manor.

Son of the late George F. and Emily McMakin Pettinos, he was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1932. Lewis was a graduate of Lehigh University and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force reaching the rank of Captain.

Lewis was President of George F. Pettinos Inc., from 1968 until the company was sold in 1998. It was a family business that was started by his grandfather George F. Pettinos in 1892. He was a Director and Past President of the National Industrial Sand Association and also a Director and Past Chairman of the National Sand and Gravel Association. For many years he was a member of Philadelphia Country Club and the Philadelphia Gun Club. He was a competitive trap and skeet shooter and belonged to several shooting clubs including Chester Springs Skeet Club, The Atlantic Indians and New Holland Gun Club among others.

He was the beloved husband of Deborah Pettinos. Devoted father of Lewis, Jr., (Marie), My Inderlest (John) and Fletcher. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren and his brother George Pettinos.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday October 28, 11 AM at St. David's Episcopal Church, 763 S. Valley Forge Rd., Wayne, PA. Interment will be private. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore PA.
