Letitia M.
Ward
June 19, 1934 – June 17, 2024
Letitia M. Ward, affectionately known as "Tish" to her friends and family, passed away quietly with her loved ones by her side on June 17, 2024, at her home in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Tish was born on June 19, 1934, in Norfolk, Virginia, and was christened Letitia Madeline Hickey by her parents George Lester and Helen Hickey.
Tish is survived by her three sisters, Linda Shappell, Helene Kelly, and Jane Ledoux; her four children, Stephen Ward, Bryan Ward (Noelle), Jamie Ward (Sharon), and Erin Ward; her four grandchildren, Emma and Trainor Ward, Kaleigh Behe Elwell (Bret), and Roberta Helen Ward; and her great-grandchild, Charlie Behe Elwell.
Growing up in Audubon, New Jersey, Tish emanated a deep love for words, poetry, and Latin. She attended St. Mary's of the Angels Academy and pursued her passion for literature at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia. Graduating cum laude, she was honored as the poet laureate of her class.
In 1958, Tish married the love of her life, Charles F. Ward. Together, they lived and raised their children in Lower Merion Township. While nurturing her family, Tish also dedicated her time to teaching, tutoring, and selling real estate. Her love for poetry and writing led her to start a local book club, which flourished for nearly 40 years.
Tish will be remembered as a kind and loving wife and mother, a fearless eldest sister, and a loyal, fun-loving friend. Her generosity, wisdom, and unwavering support touched the lives of many.
In lieu of flowers, Tish's family asks that you honor her memory by giving the gift of peace to each other and making a donation to the American Brain Foundation.
