L. Howard Shingle, Jr., formerly of Gladwyne, PA, passed away on Sunday April 2, 2006 at his residence at Beaumont at Bryn Mawr Retirement Community. He was 88.
Son of the late Lester Howard and Elizabeth Heck Shingle, he was born in Philadelphia in 1917. He attended Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a survivor of the sinking of the U.S.S. Meredith during the invasion at Normandy. Mr. Shingle worked for the family business and was a past President of L.H. Shingle Co., located in the Philadelphia region, once known as "the world's largest producer of industrial leather products." He was a longtime member of Merion Cricket Club and a member of Gulph Mills Golf Club.
He was the beloved husband of Jeannette Haines Shingle. He is also survived by his sons, Reed H. and John R.
