Obituary

Kathleen Mary Bruder (nee Ryan) passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on Friday, August 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife, mother, Mom Mom, Great Mom Mom, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Kathleen was the doting and loving wife of 61 years to the late Thomas A. Bruder, Jr. She is survived by her six children: Thomas A. III (Lynn), John A., Mary Kate Trusk (Todd), Timothy A. (Sarah), Christopher J. (Lisa), and James A. (Marisa). Kathleen was also the proud grandmother of 21 grandchildren: Devynne Bruder Slagis (Ben), Thomas A. IV (Ashley), Stephen J., Erin R. Bruder; Christopher T., Michaela K., Timothy J., Kathleen R., Meghan K., Charles M. Trusk; Timothy A. Jr., Henry K., Katharine L.C. Bruder; , Grace E., Christopher J. Jr., Brian S., Mary K. Bruder; James A. Jr., Caroline M., John A., and Abigail R. Bruder; as well as four great-grandchildren: Kellyn and Margot Slagis, and Reagan and Thomas A. Bruder V.

Kathleen was born on September 12, 1938, in Philadelphia to Kathryn (née McNulty) and Anthony Ryan. Affectionately known as "Kakie," she was the second of nine children and the eldest daughter. Her brothers idolized her, and her sisters considered her the perfect big sister. She is survived by her siblings: Joseph Ryan (Bunny), Sally McNichol, Rosemary McCarty (late John, ESQ), Anthony Ryan (Donna), Thomas Ryan (Peggy), and Charles Ryan (Sally), as well as sister-in-laws Janet Tegler (late Albert), Maripeg Bruder (late Jim), and Meredith Bruder (late Michael). She was predeceased by her sisters Mary Ellen Ryan and Patricia Ryan, sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Flanigan, Patricia Irvine, and brother-in-law, Jay Irvine.

Kakie attended Merion Mercy Academy for 13 years and went on to Immaculata College. A naturally gifted athlete, she loved all sports but excelled in basketball and field hockey during high school. Her greatest achievement, however, was her family.

Kathleen was a devout Catholic who attended daily Mass. Her Christian faith was the core of her being, guiding her in all aspects of life. She could always be found at her children's sporting events, no matter the distance. Years later, she would still be cheering from the sidelines at her grandchildren's games, often offering guidance to the coaches. Her dedication to her family was unwavering; she even skipped trips to Florida to attend her grandchildren's events. Her devotion was deeply noticed and appreciated, and she was dearly loved in return.

Kathleen was an elegant and beautiful woman, inside and out. She hosted countless holiday parties, preparing feasts for over 60 relatives annually. She was generous and thoughtful, never missing birthdays and always supporting her family when needed. Kathleen loved her family immensely.
