Joseph Peter Moore, Jr., 97, of Gladwyne, PA passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024. Born on January 1st, 1927 in Philadelphia, Joseph graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School in 1948 and married Harriet Beahm in 1950.

In the early 1950's Joseph opened an automobile agency selling various "imported" cars but eventually concentrated his efforts on Volkswagen and Porsche.  He then purchased over 28 properties in North Philadelphia to create Moore Motors Inc. which operated for over 45 years.

In 1959 Joseph became one third owner of Elk Mountain, a new ski area opening in northeastern PA. By 1992 Joseph had purchased the remainder of the mountain which he ran until his last hours. For over 60 years Joseph assembled over 1600 acres of land around the ski area for development. The ski area grew from 2 lifts and 6 trails to 7 lifts and 27 ski trails.

Joseph was predeceased by his son, Edward Moore and is survived by his loving wife of over 73 years, Harriet. He is also survived by his children: Joseph Moore, III (Jane), Anne Moore Willcox (Mark), Elizabeth Moore Mahoney (Edwin), and Timothy Moore (Teresa Addiego), grandchildren Jane Moore (Isaiah King), Sara Moore Dolan (Phillip), Gretchen Moore (Eric Thomas-Hill), Anne Willcox (Greg Murphy), Elizabeth Willcox, Charles Mahoney (Li), Edwin Mahoney, III, Lucille Mahoney Bailey (Tom), Nathaniel Moore, Nigel Moore and Sun Hi Moore, great grandchildren August King, Jane King, Rocco Dolan and Edwin T. Mahoney.

A Memorial Service will take place on December 11, 2024 at 11 am at the Merion Cricket Club in Haverford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Riverbend Environmental Education Center in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania
