Joseph A. Barone, Esq., 69, a retired attorney, died at home after a long illness on Thursday March 13, 2008. He was a resident of Berwyn and Ocean City, New Jersey. After graduating from Lower Merion High School he was a music major at West Chester State College and then went on to teach music while attending graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania. He then received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Villanova University School of Law. He spent 31 years at the law firm of Krusen, Evans and Byrne where he was a partner and specialized in corporate and maritime law. Among his clients were Keystone Shipping Company and American Dredging Company.


Mr. Barone had a life long love of music. He was a subscriber to the Philadelphia Orchestra, Pennsylvania Ballet and the Opera Company of Philadelphia. In his early retirement he taught a music appreciation course at the Rosemont College Forum and enjoyed taking courses in literature, philosophy and religion there. Even during his illness he retained a thirst for learning, spending hours each day reading a book.


In addition to music and learning Mr. Barone enjoyed travel in Europe and the American West, where two of his sons reside. He enjoyed posing for several paintings by Narberth artist Barrie Maguire. A recent portrait appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer on March 16th 2007.


He is survived by his wife Patricia (Brennan) Barone, sons Joseph P. Barone of Berwyn, Stephen B. Barone, Esq. of Lyons, Colorado, and Dr. Christopher M. Barone of Portland, Oregon, grandchildren Daniel, Georgia, Charlie, Justine and Henry, his step-mother Kathryn Barone of Bryn Mawr and brother Marcantonio Barone of Haverford.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Norbert Church, Paoli, on Tuesday, March 18 at 10 AM. A viewing will be held in the church before Mass from 9 to 10 AM.
