John F.
Mckelvey
August 31, 1945 – May 8, 2021
John F. McKelvey, of Gladwyne, PA., passed away on May 8, 2021 at Lankenau Medical Center. He was 75.
Son of the late Francis L. & Marie Ward McKelvey, he was born in Philadelphia PA on August 31, 1945.
John is the beloved husband of Angela McKelvey (nee Ettorre). Devoted father of Joseph W. (Nicole), Jeffrey A., Kelly M., Katie R. Swartz (Daniel), Kimberly M. and the late John F., Jr. (Heather). Loving Pop-Pop to Shane, Dylan, Tripp, Stella and Leo John. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
John was the ultimate family man. Nothing brought him more joy than having his wife, 6 kids and 5 grandkids all around - whether it be by the pool or around the Christmas tree. He was the proud 3rd generation owner of Francis L. McKelvey & Son but the title of husband, Dad and Pop Pop were the ones that meant to the most to him.
He loved nothing more than lighting up Riverview Road every December with his Clark Griswold style Christmas light display.
John's most prized possession was his 1940 Mercury Hot Rod - affectionately known as "The Merc." He was a proud life long member of The Over The Hill Gang and drove thousands of miles over the years hitting up all the hottest car shows across the country.
He was a cherished and trusted friend to so many and always made time for any buddy in need. He was blessed to have those same buddies rally around him in his times of need - particularly when he lost his beloved son John to Leukemia in 2013.
Simply put, he will be missed more than any words on this page could ever describe.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday May 15, 11 AM at St. Matthias Church, 128 Bryn Mawr Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA. Interment will follow in St. Denis Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation on Friday from 6 to 8 PM or on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at St. Matthias Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society , 110 W. Laurel Ave., Cheltenham PA 19012 or to John McKelvey Jr. Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 644, Bryn Mawr PA 19010.
