John P.
Mccolgan, Jr.
September 5, 1939 – December 20, 2023
John P. McColgan, "Jack," passed away, surrounded by his family, on December 20th, 2023, at his residence in Wynnewood, PA, at the age of 84. Son of the late John P, Sr. and Marie Becht McColgan of Roxborough, Jack was born on September 5th, 1939.
At a young age, the McColgans moved from Roxborough to Manayunk, where Jack had attended Holy Family grade school and later was a proud graduate of Roman Catholic High School, class of '57. After high school, Jack went on to Dobbins trade school to learn the plumbing trade in order to work in his family's business, Kiester McColgan & Sons Plumbing and Heating, in 1959. He later took over ownership of the company in 1972 and continued to work at "The Shop" until his retirement in 2002.
Jack was a committed supporter of his community as a volunteer with the Union fire company in Bala Cynwyd. He had joined the department in 1961, and proudly served the fire company in many roles during his 60 years of service. He was a firefighter, member of the board of directors, and house committee chairman, to name a few.
Throughout his life, Jack was a very avid outdoorsman. Whether he was fishing in Canada with friends and family, vacationing or hunting in his cabin in Sullivan county, or golfing at Llanerch Country Club or any number of golf courses, he always kept himself active and outdoors.
Jack was the beloved husband of Joanne McColgan (nee Renninger). The two met in the fall of 1956, and were very happily married on June 11th, 1960. Jack and Joanne initially settled in Narberth and ultimately moving to Wynnewood in 1983 where they raised their family and built their life together throughout their 63 years of marriage. Jack was a devoted father of Daniel, Patrick, Timothy (Wendy), Christopher (Christine), and was predeceased by his oldest son Michael. He was also a loving Poppi of Killian, Bridget, Riley, Alexander, Charlotte, and Annabelle; and a dear brother of Joseph (Joanne), Thomas (Jane), and the late Joan McDonald (Joseph).
Jack will be sorely missed by his immediate family and his large circle of friends who he always saw as his extended family.
