JOHN "JACK" MARSHALL of Devon, died December 15, 2011 of complications related to sepsis at Paoli Memorial Hospital. Mr. Marshall was born in Philadelphia Sept. 21, 1920. He was a 1938 graduate of West Philadelphia High School, where he was president of the student body. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1941 and worked for the Office of Public Information in Bainbridge, Md. Mr. Marshall was a Yeoman 2nd Class and served aboard the U.S.S. Mount Vernon, a troop transport ship. After being honorably discharged in 1946, Mr. Marshall worked for the communications departments of Smith Kline and French (now GlaxoSmithKline) and then ARA Services, now Aramark. After leaving ARA, Mr. Marshall entered the real estate field, where he worked for Prudential Fox Roach with his wife of 58 years, Cynthia Churchman Marshall, who preceded him in death on Oct. 25 of this year. During and after his real estate career, Mr. Marshall was involved with an area support group for men with prostate cancer, a disease he was diagnosed with nearly 30 years ago. Mr. Marshall was an only child. He is survived by his sons John C., Samuel and William Marshall and two daughters-in-law, Susan (Hanling) and Laura (Buck). He was the grandfather of Thomas, Bailey, Carly and Jack; and several nieces and nephews who were much involved in his life. Services will be at 2 P.M. on Thursday, Dec. 22 at St. David's Episcopal Church, 763 South Valley Forge Rd., in Wayne. A reception will follow.
