Obituary

John H. Kramer, 67, of Vero Beach, FL and Bryn Mawr, PA passed away on November 20, 2025. A leukemia survivor for over 25 years, John met each challenge with grit, grace and courage. He leaves behind a legacy of humor, generosity, and love for his family and friends.

Born in 1958 and raised in Greenwich, CT, John attended Brunswick School before graduating from Choate Rosemary Hall. He earned his degree from Duke University in 1980. As a young man, John's adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors led him to own a river rafting company in Seattle while beginning his career in the reinsurance industry. John had a long and successful career in reinsurance, in Seattle, New York, and Philadelphia.

Even more than his professional success, John valued his family. He is survived by his wife, Ruie Close Kramer; his brother Terry Hannock (Pam); his daughter, Madeleine Kramer Stilz (Moritz); his son, Jay Andrew Kramer and his grandchildren, Teddy and Clara; and his extended family, including in-laws, niece and nephews.

John was an avid golfer and a devoted sports fan, cheering tirelessly for the Duke Blue Devils and Philadelphia sports teams. John loved to stay active, whether rafting out West, golfing in Scotland with Jay or pounding the pavement in London with Madeleine and Ruie.

John loved having fun. Known for his mischievous sense of humor, he was quick to crack a joke even when faced with adversity. He was loved and will be missed by his family and the many friends he made throughout his life.

Celebrations of John's life will be held in Bryn Mawr and Vero Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and the Gifford Youth Achievement Center.
