Rev. John P. Gallagher, Pastor Emeritus, Saint John Baptist Vianney Parish, Gladwyne, PA. and Resident of Villa St. Jospeh, Darby, PA., died at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital on Sunday February 24, 2013.

Fr. Gallagher was born on December 31, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA. He is the son of the late James J. and Anne McLaughlin Gallagher. Fr. Gallagher attended St. William Parochial School, Philadelphia and Northeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Fr. Gallagher was ordained on May 11, 1957 at Immaculate Conception Church, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John F. O'Hara, C.S.C. Fr. Gallagher served as Parochial Vicar at St. Nicholas Parish, Weatherly. He also served as a Faculty member and Vice Principal at Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia. Fr. Gallagher served as Visiting Professor in Education at the National University of Ireland for one year. He also served as Pastor, St. Philip Neri Parish, Pennsburg from 1985-1993. In June 1993, Fr. Gallagher was appointed Pastor, St. John Baptist Vianney Parish, Gladwyne, and named Pastor Emeritus there in June 2001. He also served as Senior Priest at St. Albert the Great Parish, Huntingdon Valley.

Fr. Gallagher was the dear brother of the late James, Thomas and Sr. Ann Maureen Gallagher, I.H.M. He is survived by his sister-in-law Katherine, niece Maureen, nephew James (Donna), great niece Jamie and many cousins both here and in Ireland.

Reverend Clergy, Religious, relatives and friends are invited on Saturday March 2nd to St. John Baptist Vianney Church, 350 Conshohocken State Rd., Gladwyne, PA. Reception of the body will be at 8:45 AM with viewing to follow until 9:45 AM. Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will celebrate a Funeral Mass commencing at 10 AM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
