John G. Freney, of Wayne, PA., passed away on November 28, 2016. He was 83.
Son of the late James J. and Mary Glaccum Freney, he was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 21, 1933. John was a graduate of The Haverford School where he was an outstanding athlete - a 3 letter man and captain of the basketball and championship football teams. He was awarded the Rainear Trophy in 1952 as the best all-around athlete at The Haverford School. In addition, he won the Eggleston Trophy for football and the Princeton Trophy for Basketball. John was a graduate of Lafayette College and served in the U.S. Navy. He was President of Georgetown Textile Manufacturing Co., Inc. of South Carolina. John was a past member of the Philadelphia Country Club, Merion Cricket Club, The Union League and Snee Farms Country Club in South Carolina.
He was the beloved husband of Jane Robbins Freney. Devoted father of Jodi Freney Chandler, Diana Freney Bambach, Cynthia Freney Petit and William B. Schneider. He is also survived by grandchildren Meghan, Christina, Jack and Will. He was predeceased by his sisters Joanne Fox and Barbara Baker.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday December 1, 11 AM at St. John Neumann Church, 380 Highland Lane, Bryn Mawr, PA. Relatives and friends may visit at the Church after 10:30 AM. Interment will be private for the family.
