Joan Gorman Schimpf, formerly of Penn Valley, PA., passed away on September 13, 2013 at her residence in Chesterbrook, PA. She was 73.
Daughter of the late Albert E. & Marie Kuhn Gorman, she was born in Abington, PA on October 23, 1939. Joan was a graduate of Convent of Sacred Heart High School and Endicott College where she founded the Women's Sailing Club. She went on to work as a buyer with Bonwitt Teller and Wanamaker's. She later owned and operated her own business, Linens By Design in Haverford, PA. She founded the first regional chapter of American Women Entrepreneurs in Philadelphia.
She was the beloved wife of Warren E. Schimpf. Devoted mother of Heather M. Glendinning (Bruce), John J. McKenna (Cynthia), Trevor C. McKenna (Glaucia) and Todd A. McKenna. Loving sister of Mary Louise Denney, Patricia Gorman Harrington, James J. Gorman (Trish), Thomas J. Gorman and the late Ted Gorman (Renee). She is also survived by 4 step-children, 8 grandchildren and 9 step-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday September 19, 10:30 AM at St. John Vianney Church, 350 Conshohocken State Rd., Gladwyne, PA. Relatives and friends may visit at the Church after 9:30 AM. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
